Blog-crastination?

January 28, 2009

I keep thinking I have something to blog about but then don’t seem to have time to get my thoughts down. One excuse is that we’ve been really busy with life. I’m buzzing with excitement and hopefulness about a project the wife and I are into with our business.

Also what ‘blogging’ time I have had has been mostly spent in some great online conversations like these at Bino’s ‘Branch of Vine‘ (Post: Find Out If You’re A Legalist) and the ‘BoldGrace‘ family (Post: My Personal Faith)

Check it out! I’ll have something to yack about soon enough. Meanwhile, enjoy the golden silence.

Living out the reconciling grace of God

Today our nation honors the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., who certainly helped pave the way for tomorrow’s inauguration of the first black U.S president.

” Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”  –Martin Luther King, Jr.

“In Christ’s family there can be no division into Jew and non-Jew, slave and free, male and female. Among us you are all equal. That is, we are all in a common relationship with Jesus Christ” — Galatians 3:28 (TM)

“…racial reconciliation is not simply something nice that Christians should be doing, a sort of add-on to the gospel—nice, but not necessary. It is at the very heart of the gospel. Reconciliation is the gospel, and racial, or ethnic reconciliation—in a divided America, and in a divided world—provides a perfect arena to manifest and to live out the reconciling grace of God. Because of this, to persist in passive avoidance of racial/ethnic reconciliation is to misunderstand the gospel of Jesus Christ” — Timothy G. Gombis, Ph. D.

Stinky “buts” mask the fragrance of Grace

Grace alone! No ifs, ands, or BUTS!

Beware of those claiming to promote the Gospel / Good News and are quick to BUTT heads with the message of God’s Grace in Christ, or at best feel compelled to use the word ‘BUT’ each time this Grace is mentioned.  You know the deal – “Yes we are saved by grace, BUT…”.

“Balance” is another word signaling unbelief of the Good News:   “Yes, grace is blah blah blah BUT we MUST BALANCE grace with blah blah blah…”

Grace and Christ are inseperable. Last time I checked Christ needs no balance. Friends don’t let friends mix Grace and law!

Infinite love invites us near to God

January 3, 2009

Meaningful words by Charles Spurgeon, from “The Rent Veil” – a sermon delivered on March 25, 1888:

…the invitation is, “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden.” “Let us draw near” is now the filial spirit of the gospel. How thankful I am for this! Read the rest of this entry »
